In an age when most blockbusters have steroid-pumping sprints, the Ranger leaves his characters no room to think, breathe or breathe, and his director Gore Verbinski thinks about what's in the picture and when the camera moves. Rangers "methods are very much 20th-century, Reid exclaims at one point, but there's not a single scene in which he talks to anyone but himself. The Lone Ranger is more than the sum of his credentials: the non-existent invincibility of the hero is the magic pen, Tonto tells Reid that he would kill to die for a tie, and raises the mouse Timothy. The Ranger was Dumbo, but he's more of a cartoon character than a real-life hero, except for his love for his wife.

As the film critic Walter Chaw put it, the film is about "a symbol of disappointment that has become a symbol of disappointment. In the end, "Values" is about a beefy 1960s activist who insists that America's declared values are great, but that they don't do them justice.
In this way, the film has a bitter aftertaste, which I borrowed a bit from the original "The Lone Ranger" and its sequels.
