Mort Rainey is a successful writer going through a rather unfriendly divorce from his wife of ten years, Amy. Alone and bitter in his cabin, he continues to work on his writing when a stranger named John Shooter shows up on his doorstep, claiming Rainey stole his story. Mort says he can prove the story belongs to him and not Shooter, but while Mort digs around for the magazine which published the story in question years ago, things begin to happen around Shooter. Mort’s dog dies, people begin to die, and his divorce proceedings with Amy continue to get uglier. It seems that Shooter has Mort over a barrel, but perhaps Mort has his own ideas on how to resolve all the problems that plague him lately.
Secret Window 2004 Trailer
Secret Window is an American psychological thriller from 2004 starring Johnny Depp and John Turturro. It was written and directed by David Koepp, based on the novel of the same name, which appeared in the first two volumes of David Fincher's book Secret Window.
The film was released by Columbia Pictures on March 12, 2004 and received mixed reviews from critics and was a moderate box office success. The 2004 psychological thriller Secret Window, based on a novella by the genre master Stephen King, does not go down well with thriller and horror film fans.
The film stars Johnny Depp in an otherwise straightforward role in which he brings his pensive eccentricity and eccentricity to the otherwise straightforward role. Firstly, the film has an incredible cast and earns more than it earns, but alongside Depp he plays Michael Fassbender, Michael Caine and a host of other talented actors.
The computer desk in the attic contains a paragraph of a new story, although it has since been deleted, and the fact that the original story is by Stephen King reminds us of our hero's misery. Timothy Hutton is Rainey, his clichéd lover who has an affair with his wife Maria Bello Has little to do and Charles Dutton plays a private investigator who meanders more than he discovers. Michael Fassbender, the best-selling novelist of all time, plays the title character, a man with black humour and a penchant for violence.
All in all, Secret Window is your average supernatural thriller that will surely entertain many people. Koepp seems to be concentrating on the characters and the result brings Secret Window to a screeching halt at some key moments.
Although the film has a lot to offer, and Stephen King fans may be a little disheartened by its injected comedic undertones, strong performances prevent it from being a total waste. I must confess that I am generally disappointed by film adaptations of his work. Many King-based films have successfully captured the author's images, but few have recreated the story based on the real-life events of the book and its characters.
Based on the true life story of Stephen King and his wife Maria Bello, the story revolves around a successful writer who is plagued by a bad case of writer blockade. After splitting from his adulterous wife MariaBello and travelling the country, he is locked up in a prison cell while he works on a new novel.
Based on a Stephen King novella, it explores themes that evoke a slow onset of paranoia and a sense of dread for the author and his wife. Depp is an author who dreams of a marriage falling apart, trapped in a rustic lakeside cabin in the shadow of his ex-wife MariaBello (Maria Bello).
The man who personally turned "Pirates of the Caribbean" into a ride of joy, makes "Secret Window" up his sleeve with his own charisma, and he also has plenty of resources behind him. Few actors are seen on screen, but Depp has a knack for making lines appear spontaneous and to expect them. He uses eccentric ticks, habits and gestures to make his characters into more than just characters in a movie, they are characters.
The surprise effect of Act III is appealing because it gives Depp the opportunity to conjure up a role reversal and make it his own. Even if "Secret Window" loses some of its charm and feels like it's slipping into clichéd horror mode, the main character's eerie performance remains extraordinary.
What could have been a pedestrian thriller from a self-recycling Stephen King novella has been raised several notches by Johnny Depp, who is riding a wave of success with his latest film. While he's still reeling from his critically acclaimed role in "Pirates of the Caribbean," he's channeling his talents into the role of a writer dealing with disgruntled readers.
The resourceful actor makes Secret Window more compelling than it would otherwise have been, but Depp's pulling power is as much a factor in the film's success as the story itself. The former should prevail when it comes to attracting fans in significant numbers, while the latter will appeal to a more casual audience.
This is the second in a series of new Johnny Depp films that deal with Stephen King's screenplay, so it's no surprise that the last one turns out to be a stinker. I was upset when it arrived because it was so horrible, banal and exaggerated, but it actually seemed like a decent flick until the twists came.
