Son of God 2014 Trailer
Last year, the History Channel aired a mini-series called "The Bible," produced by Roma Downey, who also played Mary, Jesus "mother. The miniseries received high ratings and was nominated for two Primetime Emmys. Son of God is the latest in a series of miniseries to be brought to the big screen to reach an even wider audience.
There is little traditional advertising for the film; instead, Burnett and Downey decided to reach out to church groups and rely on a grassroots campaign to speak out. Jewish groups that have sought to escape persecution of Jews in the Middle East and North Africa during the Holocaust also emphasize the importance of religious freedom and freedom of worship. Nevertheless, Jews with power do not get along well with the Son of God, and there are also serious questions about the relationship between the Church and the State of Israel.
Jewish leaders appear petty, timid and petty to the point of making themselves seem petty and timid, "the film's trailer reads.
The Son of God begins with the dreamy voice of the apostle John, who tells us that God is there when we see the struggling dinosaurs and Noah's ark crashing into the waves. The seriousness is not necessarily a blow to me, but it is hard to peel off and swallow if you have no desire to preach. It consists of serious men who want to spread the Word of God, and there is a strong connection between the title of the film and the words of Jesus Christ. Christian audiences, as can be seen from the group in the church, which claps loudly as the credits begin to roll, are clearly directed at them.
While Gibson's film focuses on the arrest, torture and death of Jesus, the Son of God guides us through the way Jesus performed miracles. In the middle of the film there is a Greatest Hits montage as well as some scenes from his life and the life of Christ.
We watch as he multiplied a loaf of fish, walked on the water and raised Lazarus from the dead. When he approaches the fisherman Peter (Darwin Shaw) for the first time and loads his boat with a dead lake in Galilee, Jesus smiles at Peter as if he had a secret. Peter tells Jesus that there are no fish out there, and Jesus, smiling, lets his hands run through the water.
Peter's net is filled with fish, and he fills his net again and again until the whole Sea of Galilee is full of them, all the way to the top.
In the film, Jesus "miracle turns out to be a party trick, as the watching crowd shouts" oooh "and" ooh! When the apostles talk to each other about Jesus "message and where it will lead, the Son of God has a rather bad script with a haunting score and a temple that is clearly a model for Jerusalem. The Jewish high priest, led by Caiaphas (played by Adrian Schiller), who is threatened by the Romans occupying Jerusalem, and his followers multiply, as do the critics.
The apostles helpfully exclaim that the message must be carried directly from the heart of power. There is one scene in which Pilate watches Jesus being dragged away to be tortured, and there is another scene in which he stares at Jesus as he is tortured. It is as if those who know what must happen know that it will happen, but not in a good way.
Pontius Pilate is played in his new position by Greg Hicks, who wants to please his overlords by keeping the Jews in line. There are some strange details that I liked and that had to do with the casting. He is seen strolling around the lake, lying on a chaise longue with his hot wife and eating grapes.
Mary Magdalene (Amber Rose Revah) is seen as an accepted part of the group of apostles, but it is refreshing that she is not invited to the Last Supper. Fraser Ayres plays a rabble-rouser chosen by the crowd to be set free in exchange for Jesus "death. Pilate is quite entertaining, and my favourite of it is still the bowie. I'm not the only one. Not even commenting on the plot, but only on the characters and their reactions to Jesus and His death.
Although the Son of God has already been shown in its entirety in this mini-series, the overall problem is that the Jesus cipher comes across as a smiling Jesus. The film is most interesting when it focuses on the "Roman occupation," which means that the Jews occupy the city of Jerusalem and its inhabitants, not just the Christians. There are gentle scenes of Jesus in his robes, stained glass windows and even a bit of crucifixion.
His Sermon on the Mount is moving and spiritual, but it strikes me, and not only because he is a man who speaks of beauty, of humble compassion for the weak and those who despise us, and stands for a humanist message that was so revolutionary then and is still so today.
It is too sublime, too casual, and it is hard to believe that this handsome man in a white dress, strolling around with a grin, has ever threatened anyone.
