Story:
Marcus Luttrell, a Navy Seal, and his team set out on a mission to capture or kill notorious Taliban leader Ahmad Shah, in late June 2005. After running into mountain herders and capturing them, they were left with no choice but to follow their rules of engagement or be imprisoned. Now Marcus and his team are left to fight for their lives in one of the most valiant efforts of modern warfare.

Review

Lone Survivor burns with passion for the project, and that can be seen from the first shot to the last. The film begins with Navy SEALs undergoing real-life training and ends with their leading fulfilled and happy lives away from troops and troop training grounds and duties, set to music and emotional power ballads.

Although Berg's source material is not the New Testament, it is treated with Mel Gibson's thunderous devotion to the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ. This bloody historical episode is told through the eyes of a resilient young man torn apart by shrieking volumes.

As a veteran actor, Berg shows great respect for his co-stars, especially Mel Gibson. The character of the funny group is illustrated by the fact that the elite fighters smash each other's sideburns and jokingly express themselves in frightening moments in anticipation of the fight.

A good example is an exquisitely controlled sequence in which members of SEAL Team 10 use an Afghan hill to monitor the movement of a group of Taliban fighters in a remote area of Afghanistan. Berg builds the tension by limiting the view to four seals sitting squatting barely disguised by low pine branches. Mark brings natural charisma and intelligence to Berg's steamy eyes, and I think he's one of the best actors in the whole movie.

We chat for a while before we get back to base, burning with fear, which of course is amplified. Gradually, their geographical advantage becomes a trap, and everyone chats until it gets back to base, burnt out and in fear of being strengthened.

Of course, Predator is a sci-fi action flick, meaning you could easily afford to explode the tension with some popcorn and friendly thrills. It reminds me a lot of the original Predator, but with a bit more action and a bit more humor.

Berg is essentially an action director, and to rein in his heroes, who reinforce the interests of the film's patriotic agenda, is to double their suffering. Lone Survivor has to negotiate the truth, but it's not without flaws, for Berg's hero suffers from a lack of self-awareness and over-the-top humor.
Whenever one of the seals is shot, sound effects are created, and the sound of lungs sucking blood with ragged breaths has never been so vivid.

Soldiers fight with at least one eye that can see through the scope and a finger that can pull the trigger. Blood flows, limbs fall and fail, men are carried and men carry on with their lives.
Pashtun villagers hostile to the Taliban take Luttrell in and defend him as if he were their own. From then on, the film becomes tipsy with heroism, and panic and distrust swirl through the translator, who is the only one aware of his own identity and identity as a man.

But what really curses the story is the faulty equipment and poor operational planning that put Luttrell and his brother in danger. The American war machine, which can easily turn the image into a recruitment spot, pays tribute to the victims by transforming the same material that once formed the basis for Saving Private Ryan, the film's title character, into an image of loyalty and courage that knows no national or tribal boundaries. The kingdom, with foreigners standing up for their "American heroes," has embraces that convey an understanding of freedom fighters, and loyalty to its troops is known across national and tribal borders. But the fact that the films were shot with Lutrell as Berg's close adviser has a sincerity and a sense of respect for the troops that should not be confused with depth.

Let's see how many members of Congress will see Lone Survivor next time a bill to increase defense spending is on the table. Not to mention the Academy members who will vote on it early next year, fretting about broken radios, phones and unavailable helicopters.
