Story:
A Jewish male nurse plans to ask his live-in girl friend to marry him. However, he learns that her strict father expects to be asked for his daughter’s hand before she can accept. Thus begins the visit from Hell as the two travel to meet Mom and Dad, who turns out to be former CIA with a lie detector in the basement. Coincidentally, a sister also has announced her wedding to a young doctor. Of course everything that can go wrong, does, including the disappearance of Dad’s beloved Himalayan cat, Jinxie.

He looks so serious, so willing to please, and yet his chiseled face becomes incredulous when the world has conspired against him. He has nothing but ears in this picture, but he acts as if he thinks it is possible. Ben Stiller behaves with the best of spells of embarrassment and annoyance, he looks like he's having a good time. In "Something for Mary," which is about meeting the parents, we get into a series of humiliating miscalculations and are played by a young man who desperately tries to impress the girl he loves.
It's not a clone or imitation of Mary, but it has its own original inspiration, and Stiller gets it. When there is a "something for Mary," he plays a character who manages to set a beloved dog on fire. Why would a man claim to have milked a cat when he supposedly milked himself?
The screenplay by Jim Herzfeld and John Hamburg reaps a lot of laughs with the way Stiller's character tells reckless little social lies and then, when caught, improvises a big, outrageous lie.
He reveals that he actually grew up in Detroit, but he says the basis is his casual claim that he grew up on a farm. His development resembles a comic pyramid: why did he claim to have no experience with milk, and why did he not reveal that his basis for his claim was his "incidental claim" that he grew on - one - a farm?
He has a cat who has given birth to 30 kittens, including a little chap who never gets his turn, and a dog with a heart of gold but no teeth.
The hapless Greg Focker plays the role of the Meet - the - parents - and - meet the parents character in the new film "Parents." Greg is not his real name, but he is the name of his parents "favourite cat and the subject of a recent documentary.
Robert De Niro plays father Jack as a hopeful groom in a nightmare, and Robert DeNiro plays his father Jack as a hopeful bride - in a nightmare.
To combat the contradictions and improbability of Greg's conversations, reason works like a steely vice. He is a sensible man, there is no shortage of that, but he is also a trained hangover that threatens no chance of survival outdoors. There is a chance Greg will let the cat out and that cat will prove better than the toilet - trained Greg.
Pam's mother Dina (Blythe Danner) understands what a tough young man can be, but her son doesn't. Get Jack, "she says to De Niro in the final scene of the film, with a mischievous smile on her face.
I think Pam likes other young men. Many of whom she really likes, and I really like him, But I'm not sure he's as good a father as I am.
The one we met was a blonde multi-millionaire who had carved the altar out of a massive block of wood for her sister's wedding. The affair with Kevin was purely physical, Pam assured me, although Greg was far from convinced by such information. Even for Greg himself it sometimes seems like he's a dangerous liar, but he's a good man.
He's Jewish, "I said to Jack, and he asked me to show mercy at dinner, but in a simple situation there was no hiding the trap.
Greg began a tortured prayer which, to his own horror, ended with the text of Godspell. Jack smiled and the Jews blessed their food, but Greg started again, this time with a lyric from "Godspell," which ended with a song from the New York Philharmonic's "Hallelujah," one of his favorite songs.
He cherished his dead mother's ashes, loved his cat, and distrusted anyone who wanted to marry his daughter, but De Niro's character hid a secret sentimentality. He had raised eyebrows and subtle puts - tee shots from his wife and children, as well as a few snarky comments about his son.
He is a confident man who enforces a series of norms that Greg violates one by one, until finally everything goes horribly wrong - from the airport autopilot where flight attendant Kali Rocha pushes him over the edge to the hotel room where the International Man Mystery emerges. De Niro sits back, waiting for the laughs to come, and Stiller is the target of Dunk - Clown game, smiling as the world around him collapses. The film is funny because you can slip in and out of farce and comedy in a bad way without putting too much effort into it.
