Review

Chinese Zodiac is an upcoming film that will be released on January 4, 2012, and it is the second part of the film series that began with the release of the first film "Zodiac" in 2009. Produced, written, directed and starring Jackie Chan, this film is also known as "Chinese Zodiac" and is a sequel to the original film "China Zodac" from the same year. The film is the third in a series of films in the franchise, which began in 2010 with "The Chinese Dancer," a film about the life and death of a young woman in China.

Chinese Zodiac is based on Chan's "Armor of God" series, which is essentially part three of the trilogy, though new fans obviously won't understand the connection. The film is the third in a series of films in the franchise, which began in 2010 with the release of "The Chinese Dancer," a film about the life and death of a young woman in China.

Jackie Chan is an adventurer who specializes in finding and stealing ancient artifacts, and therefore has the task of finding the twelve bronze heads of the Chinese zodiac. Chan plays JC, a super thief who travels the world to steal ancient artifacts for himself and his team in order to make money. This time, JC and her team are hired by the dastardly CEO of the MP Corporation, inexplicably played by Hollywood veteran Oliver Platt, to steal the bronze statues of Chinese Zodiac looted by the British.
The fight continues, and the competition varies from annoying to deadly, with the help of a team of super thieves and a group of mercenaries from different countries.

When Jackie Chan finally conquered the United States, many of his works were available on DVD, and Operation Condor was one of the many films I liked. I remember the last thing we saw of Jackie's character, the Asian condors, was when he had to hold gold out of his hands during the Nazi invasion of Germany in World War II. Some time later, a sequel to this film, Operation Condor 2 (subtitled Armor of God) was released, but I was disappointed.

At the beginning of the film, a treasure hunter is selling his services to a multinational corporation that wants 12 ancient statues depicting the animals of the Chinese zodiac, and he will steal works of art and relics from the highest bidder. The character of the Condor has always been a bit of Indiana Jones - a shady personality, but you don't have to have seen many movies to guess that his bow in this movie will make his character realize that he's a materialistic bastard.

A slap in the face of a young archaeology student seems to awaken a spark of dignity in Condor and set him on the path to fight his former employer. The action figure, known for looting relics and derring-do in a variety of exotic locations around the world and played by the original actor, who is now nearing the end of his career, is being rebooted for the 21st century.

The twelve bronze heads of the Chinese zodiac, plundered by colonial powers after the turbulent end of the Ging Dynasty, were purchased by philanthropists around the world to return them to their rightful place in their home countries. The fact that it might be helpful to call it "Chinese Zodiac 2012," as it is now called, gives Jackie Chan fans, including myself, especially those eagerly awaiting his arrival, little reason to get upset. The man has been searching around the world for the 1.80 metre bronze head of his own destiny for more than a century.

I grew up on a diet of action movies and would never miss a JC movie when the opportunity arose. What goes beyond the scope of this review cannot be answered in comparison to earlier films, or whether it is worth buying tickets.

m a big fan of Chan, I would like to say that the general reception has been mixed or downright negative, but that is unwarranted, and that Chinese Zodiac is as good as any of his other films, if not better. Of course, the script is not the most important thing in Chan's films, and as long as it's here, you tend to sit there twiddling your thumbs and waiting for the next action scene. I didn't even realise it was going to be awkward until I realised that maybe that's why the film was made. This makes the connection vague, leading to a somewhat confusing enterprise that doesn't seem to know which movie (Asian Hawk or the movie)

Chinese zodiac sign has a plethora of faults, and it should actually be so much better than it is, but at least the plot is implemented as one would expect from Chan. It's certainly fun to be there - but it's not as good as some of his other films, or even his most recent ones.
