Hanna is expected to be one of the most anticipated films at this year's Cannes Film Festival. Nothing is done to explain why Cate Blanchett is so determined to eliminate Eric Bana and make the film's back story look like it exists in a void. But that has more to do with the idea than with what is revealed about who Hanna is, and that is a good thing.
Hanna is content to remain a little superficial, and although there are no more internal defects, the shallowness prevents it from being more than a good film. Being a "good film" is not something to scoff at, because so few thrillers these days do what Hanna does so effortlessly: competent and innovative entertainment.
