A new ride share service app called RYDE is taking over what used to be the Taxi industry. It’s cheaper and has more of a “friend giving you a ride” type of feel. With so many people using this fun new platform, how safe is it? When a PSYCHOPATH takes over the identity of a Ryde driver, everyone who uses this app will be at the mercy of this maniac. Getting an RYDE is as simple as a few clicks away, but getting out alive won’t be so easy.
Ryde 2017 Trailer
Brian Frank Visciglia directs from a screenplay he wrote with Kat Silvia and Dustin Frost. The film is his second feature film after Fimer, which made Michael Jai White a star. Ryde will compete against ArtAffects in the IFC drama Rebel Rye, which will be released in limited release in the US and Canada on April 7, 2017. We will have to wait and see if we see the full cast and crew of the film as well as the director's commentary on the plot of the film.
I went to RYDE with low expectations, it was a cheesy slasher movie, but then I looked at the cast and crew of Rebel Rye and their story.
I know I have to give the Red Christmas high props, but I can honestly say that RYDE is one of the most original and entertaining horror I have seen in a while. Until the end, it's something different, refreshing and unpredictable, so I know that.
The plot is definitely something most of us can relate to, and it could even be a great introduction to ride-sharing services like Uber, Lyft and UberX. The first came to me without much persuasion, but I saw an opportunity to add more victims to the list while I was operating the car.
The premise dominates the rest of the film as we follow Paul on various pick-ups and ask which of his passengers will be his next victim. On first impressions, he doesn't seem to have any preferred choice, and everyone is pretty much fair game. It soon becomes apparent that he seems to choose whom he chooses, with those who display even the slightest attitude quickly becoming his prey. If one of them is not caught, he does it in such a way that everyone could be noticed, even if he is not his target.
By the end of the recordings it is clear that this psychopath is out for blood, in a way that no psychopath can get away with. The trailer also delves into how the mysterious Paul managed to hack the identity of Ryan's riders, which is clearly important as their ratings are important to their customers.
Supporting actors include Michael Caine as Ryan's best friend and co-founder of the company, and a host of other characters from his past.
A new trailer has been posted on Gravitas Ventures' YouTube giving us a glimpse of a mysterious Ryde driver named Paul, played by David Wachs. In the scene, he enjoys the Los Angeles skyline while his passengers smoke cigarettes outside. He appears to be an ordinary passenger - an upstart noticed by one of the drivers on the road.
Ryde is an exciting, cautious story set in downtown LA with an impressive cast and crew led by first-time filmmaker Brian Visciglia. It feels more like a sci-fi thriller than a horror movie, but it's still a film about the dangers of driving.
The cinematography in Rymar deserves special mention, as it was a nightmare to shoot because logistically there was not enough time to get under the influence of Maniac Drive.
Another problem I had with the film was that it exposed a lot of nudity of women on screen. I'm not going to say I'm against it, but it seemed negligent, as there was a scene in which Paul talks to Karl before killing him and taking his place as Ryan's driver that seemed to have almost a moment.
Brian Visciglia's feature debut Ryde is scary, but it doesn't come across as some sort of misogynistic American psycho, with a style without substance. The fact that Paul is gay and open-minded could have been interesting and brought some freshness to Paul's repetitive routine.
Wachs' last hurrah) plays an elusive loner who travels into Ryde's cab one night. In a parallel story, the ghastly friend Marcus (Ronnie Alvarez) and his friend Kill Kapone go to town. When he realizes that an app gives him the opportunity to roam the streets of L.A. to pick up hot female strangers and beat them to death, he sets off in a stolen vehicle and pretends to be a charming driver named Karl.
A guy who seems to have a pretty cool demeanor, but deep down forgets that his demeanor is looking for a reason to turn Loosea into a psycho-killer.
After meeting by chance, they share a place (think UBER or LYFT) where Paul quickly puts the kibosh on his host. Kyle (Thomas Schmidt) cruises around a bit and brings her back to the place, but his driver Karl picks him up. Paul finally gets Karl in, and he takes him to another place to pick him up, and punches and hits him on the way to pick him up.
