Forrest joins the army for service in Vietnam, finding new friends called Dan and Bubba, he wins medals, creates a famous shrimp fishing fleet, inspires people to jog, starts a ping-pong craze, creates the smiley, writes bumper stickers and songs, donates to people and meets the president several times. However, this is all irrelevant to Forrest who can only think of his childhood sweetheart Jenny Curran, who has messed up her life. Although in the end all he wants to prove is that anyone can love anyone.
Forrest Gump 1994 Trailer
By the way, I've never seen the film Forrest Gump, so any attempt to describe the film risks making it seem more conventional than it is, but let's try. It's a comedy, it's funny, and I'd never met anyone like him before this movie, let alone seen him.
The hero, played by Tom Hanks, is a thoroughly decent man with an IQ of 75, who manages to get involved in one of the most important events of his life. The screenplay by Eric Roth has a lot of depth and depth, but also a lot of humor.
This is not a heartwarming story about a mentally handicapped man, it is the story of a man with a hole in his heart that, like Forrest Gump, is far too small and narrow to survive only with honesty and kindness as a shield.
The film is more a meditation on time than anything else, because we see a man who lacks cynicism and who believes that things are exactly what they are.
Forrest is smart enough, and Tom Hanks could be the only actor who could play the role, but watch closely And you will understand why some people criticise him for being too clever by half. I don't think of anyone like Gump until I've seen him deliver his best performance in a movie in more than a decade.
Forrest is mainly to blame for trying to correct his attitude by putting braces on him and never criticising his opinion. When Forrest is called stupid, his mother tells him, "Stupid is as stupid as you are," and he proves unable to do anything less profound. The performance is a perfect example of Hanks' ability to be both a character actor and a stand-alone actor. At the boarding house, Forrest lives in constant fear for his life and the safety of his family.
When his suspenders finally fall off his legs, he morphs into Gump, a man who walks across America and then follows his steps. He receives a college football scholarship, though his life story eventually becomes a running gag about happiness. Gumps, the football hero, becomes an honorary medallist in Vietnam, and he can walk on the wind and become a millionaire with a new fruit company called Apple Computer.
The rest, the film suggests, is simply excess, and you could argue that Forrest, with his IQ of 75, doesn't quite understand what's happening to him. He does not understand everything that is important about love, even though the woman he fell in love with at primary school and with whom he never fell in love tells him that he himself did not know what love was. But he understands everything he needs to know, but he's still not quite sure what it is.
Director Robert Zemeckis is under no illusions about the magic that special effects can do, but here he uses computer-aided visual tricks to put Gump in historical situations with real people, and he deserves credit for having at least one real person in each picture in a real place. Forrest is on the Dick Cavett Show with John Lennon, he's been to the White House three times, taught Elvis how to swing his hips, is now a stripper, stood next to George Wallace at the school next door, visited the President of the United States, was on "The Dick Cavett Show" and visited Elvis and stood on stage. The film is about how Forrest embarks on a journey through recent American history. He speaks to a different audience, rubbing their eyes in the face of realism.
The special effects are also used to create the character of Forrest's Vietnam friend Lt., as well as a number of other characters in the film, including George Wallace, the President of the United States.
Ron Kovic's guy who lost his leg quite convincingly, Dan (Gary Sinise), and his wife Jenny (played by Robin Wright), who embarks on a parallel tour of the counterculture, while Forrest's life becomes a tour of America - straight ahead. Carefully selected TV clips, Zemeckis created the scene in which LBJ examines a wound after Forrest describes the butt of an ox in synchronized voices. The film's biggest laugh comes from Nixon, who then recommends Watergate to Forrest, his best friend and Vietnam veteran.
And of course they get together and go to California to argue with the hippies about who will like them and who won't. Finally, it becomes clear that Forrest and Jenny themselves cover milestones in recent cultural history and that the refuge in which they end up is a dream of reconciliation with society. They endanger not only themselves, but also the rest of the country and even the world.
