The name and lead actor of the franchise is the only thing that adds to this silly, memorable action hype. Opening a ball - punctured by snoozefest on Valentine's Day seems particularly wrong - leads, and the franchise name of the leading men is worshipped as the only thing that elevates it above a silly and forgettable action - torso.
A Good Day to Die Hard sees John McClane (Bruce Willis) travel to Moscow to help his estranged son John, who goes to prison for an apparently brazen crime.
When John accidentally throws Jack's operation out of the water, it is up to the McClane boys to put their differences aside to escape the wrath of their father and get the evidence about Chagarin, whom Komarov protects. Slowly, with several rejected as screenplays, the film eventually became a Moscow-based sequel in which he would team up with his estranged son. Starting with a rumoured Die Hard / 24 crossover, which would have played an important role in the plot of the first film, to a sequel with a more traditional action adventure plot.
So John McClane is back with a vengeance, but this time as a cowboy who behaved too much like a rodeo and not like any cowboy.
The film begins in Moscow, where Jack McClane is involved in a series of political murders, culminating in his agreeing to testify against a dissident in exchange for leniency. Jai Courtney is arrested for the assassination attempt and Jack turns out to be a CIA agent who has to rescue political prisoner Komarov (Sebastian Koch). With his estranged son Jack in tow, he sets off to Moscow in search of his son's killer.
McClane inadvertently stands in Komarov's way, and father and son are forced to learn Russian in order to get a special file that exposes Chagarin as the villain.
On a good day, McClanane's relationship with mortality is a little jarring, as the scenario takes us back to John McClanane. In a funny fact, he's been written off all along, but Live Free or Die Hard wants you to do the right thing by him. Die hard, you can die, and die as hard as you want to die for your family, your friends, or even yourself.
It is obvious that this new part does not belong in the same series as the original Die Hard. In retrospect, nothing crazy has happened to John McClane since the first Die Hard, but it is the fact that no one has seen this one side - from - that illustrates the point.
Again, does anyone care that we first saw the New York cop saving his wife from terrorists in an L.A. high-rise? The answer is "no" in Stirb, but that doesn't mean it works its way into people's lives like the original by John McTiernan. The fact that they are at least asking this question is the important part of it.
It seems like a silly question, because action films don't usually require the audience to look after their protagonists until they see them at the end. Die Hard doesn't have to be like that, it's just not the way it is, which is why the tired number presentation is entitled "The Son of Diehard," given the lack of imagination and inventiveness. The film proved to be better than the original, as did the sequel a little less.
John McClane (Bruce Willis) sets out to help find perhaps his son, who for reasons he does not know is in trouble with the Russian authorities, and embarks on a journey to the Russian Embassy in New York City, hoping to help him escape or perhaps find him. Looks awful, I'm talking about a movie with a lot of bad acting, bad dialogue and bad action. The Good Day to Die Hard is directed by John McTiernan, the man responsible for the first two films (and, if you must remember, one of the best action films of all time). Although he does not understand what is going on, he screws up the escape plan and eventually helps his sons and Komarov to escape the persecuted assassins.
